The Sacrament of Baptism is often called “The Door of the Church,” because it is the first of the seven sacraments not only in time but in priority, since the reception of the other sacraments depends on it. Once baptized, a person becomes a member of the Church.

To highlight the glory of Easter, we don't celebrate baptisms during Lent except in certain extenuating circumstances. Parents/Guardians of the infant must attend the baptism preparation session held online by watching videos at formed.org. Godparents are also required to attend the baptismal preparation session at formed.org. If the godparents live outside the parishes of the Catholic community of Douglas-Pirtleville, they have the option to attend the preparation session at their own parish and provide written confirmation from the parish that they attended a preparation session.

An infant baptism information form must be filled out and submitted to the parish office. To fill out the baptismal information form, click on the link for Immaculate Conception, St. Bernard and St Luke. Please remember that baptisms are not celebrated during Lent. It is always a joyous occasion when a child comes into the Church! Below are the requirements for infant baptism and a brief overview of the process.

1. Fill out the baptismal information form

2. Attend the Infant Baptism Preparation Session which will briefly explain the Catholic understanding of infant baptism and the reasons behind the requirements.

3. Parents must provide a copy of the child’s birth certificate.

Each proposed godparent needs to be certified by their own parish as meeting the requirements for godparents. godparents are chosen for their faithful commitment and for their ability to assist the godchild and parents on their faith journey. Only one godparent is required for baptism, either male or female; if two godparents are selected, then one must be male and other female.

Each godparent must meet the following requirements:

1. Must be at least 16 years of age.

2. May not be the natural or adoptive parent of the child being baptized.

3. Must be fully initiated Roman Catholic (Baptism, Confirmation, and First Communion).

4. Must be an active, practicing Catholic in full communion with the Catholic Church and striving to live a life in harmony with its teachings.

5. If married, the marriage must be valid according to Church teaching.
